Free Range Peacocks?

Mine like to stand in the water to cool off. Mine seem to be fine getting in water that comes up to their tummy. I would agree with Zaz I don't think they would go deeper than a foot probably. My peafowl like eating cooked rice, I am not sure about raw rice. I don't think it would be much of an issue especially if you are just going to have two of them. Also, that is a great idea to give the farmer some of the feathers. That will certainly make the peafowl a positive thing.

WOW WOW WOW.. What a beautiful flock of peafowl you have Zazouse. I think they are learning to go into the water from that heron bird

Maybe they will also learn how to catch a few fish.

I never realised that they like to stand in the water like that so cool of either MinxFox. My chickens like to scratch about in a shallow muddy puddle, but they never get deep enough to touch their bellies, and they never just stand in the water to cool down.

I will let you all know how I go.

Thank you for the compliment.
They go to the ponds to feed on small fry and grass shrimp every day.
we also have a few wild birds that stay here. funny how my dogs know which ones are ok and which ones are strangers and run them off i guess it is because the birds make a fuss about the strange birds but not the ones that stay alot of the time.

He sure does, that is Critter, i haven't seen him in a while but he does that, when he comes to visit he stays for a couple days then off he goes. my dogs couldn't even run him off, he's a hoot .

I got a huge gray herring that tries to come to the ponds to feed and Annie has made it her mission to keep him outa here, this is her first time to show real guarding instincs, she stays between the bird and her flocks and then will take off after the intruder when barking doesn't work. Marty has taught her well.
I took some photos of her working the other day, i will download them and see if any came out as i was zoomed in and sometimes they come out blurry.

If the big heron sticks around long enough will the dog eventually accept him, or will she always run him off?
