Free ranging unprotected all day - do you do it?

thanks for all the responses guys/gals. i've been keeping mine locked up during the day until about 4 to train them on the nest boxes since they are just starting to lay. prior to this, they were out all day everyday, but we've since moved outside of town where we have a little more wildlife roaming around, but i think once all 9 are consistently laying in the boxes, they will be all day again.
