i did not read all the replies because I wanted to only respond to your original post. When we freely give we give. It makes me mad that some people lie and are sneaky and dishonest. We have all kinds of people in this world, but when you give you give. Next time either give them away with no strings attached or charge $5 each for them. Forgive these people and do things differently next time. :0)

Point well taken. I wasn't suggesting that lying was okay. I wasn't suggesting that deception is ever right. The main point I was making was that the new owners were just that - new owners.

well................................i am an oppurtunist and if i saw an oppurtunity to make money i would. Not saying it is right to lie but thats what people do!

Once those chickens left that house the OP really can't do much about what happens to them. I would have ran them through auction and called it a day!!! They were his chickens and he wanted to make some $$$$. Unfortunatly it was based on a big fat lie! HAPPENS ALL THE TIME

Next time kill them and eat them, that way you know what's gonna happen to them.

tnchickenut - - I have learned alot about how other people view things through your post. I am amazed that over a 1/3 of the responders did not have a problem with this incident. I wonder if the tables were turned and instead of the buyer lying, the seller had lied - - - - if there would be more responders have concerns with the dishonesty that occured.

Oh well, this has been an enlighting thread.

It has been interesting seeing each person's viewpoint.

That happened to me at a swap I went to on Saturday....

I had a little 4 month old Cockerel that was FREE to a good home....just because no one wants Roos and I didn't want to kill him.

Some random guy comes along and asks:

"What breed is he?"
I said "Welsummer"
He said "Why are you giving him away?"
I said "Because we need to downsize our flock and we have too many roosters"
He said " Yeah, I have too many roosters, too. But I will take this guy......I'm going to try and see if anyone will buy him. If not, I will just keep him"


WELL lets see here....If I THOUGHT I could make $$ off the Roo, I would of put a price tag on him!! I wanted him to go to a nice farm where he could have some girls...

But yeah, once they leave your care, you don't have anymore control over them
