FREE TO GOOD HOME: 3 year old boy...

I think my three year old is darling, but he definitely still needs supervision around the chicks!!! Parents who don't understand that make me wonder.

My older two don't need so much, but they're a lot older.

In my toddler's defense, when we unpacked the boxes of chicks, he was able to help dip his fair share of beaks into the water without squeezing anybody too hard. He's very very gentle with the chicks.

That said, he still gets close supervision JUST IN CASE. He IS still three. You can't blame a hunting dog for killing, it's what he does, and toddlers get excited.

I hear that all the time, but let me tell you, MY sons didn't read that rulebook. My most dramatic emotional one is the older boy, hands down.

You are absolutely right, they do get excited.

We have to keep a constant eye on our 3 year old, too, or he would get hurt getting into things he shouldn't be in.

Ohhhhh. My youngest is 8m and I'm already getting the babylust.

My kids are 9, 7, 5, 3, 8 weeks. The oldest 2 are pretty good about leavning the chickens alone.

Mine are 9.5, 7, 3 and 8m. (Can't always choose when to have them... I'd have one in between 7 and 3 if it had been up to me.) The oldest is very into the chickens and helps take care, the second is a little less interested but helps a little. Neither needs much supervision. The third would love to do everything, but of course needs lots of supervision. The baby wants to eat the chickens

My DH wanted to cut me off at two kids... at three kids... at four kids... we'll see if he DOES anything

I wouldn't mind five...

Oh not here! I had to have a c-section this last time and I said "Enuff!" Had 4 natural deliveries and if this last time had been natural too I would have gone for one more...atleast LOL

Mine are 9.5, 7, 3 and 8m.

Just about the same ages as mine! My oldest will be 10 in April. She loves chickens too, is reading all the books she can on them, and has her own small flock consisting of 5 Buff Brahma Bantams, 3 RIR, and 3 Creoles. Plus one Sizzle she named Chirpy.

My 7 year old shares ownership of a pair of Quail Antwerps with me and says he would like to get some other chickens of his own as well.

Now my 5 yr is constantly being yelled at for chasing the birds. Time outs no longer work so I resorted to a pop on the butt. THAT worked!!

Three year old doesn't like the chickens (the bigger ones) too much and is scared of my geese. But he likes the 3 week old chicks.

The Baby has no clue LOL

My DH said we were done after 2, because we had one of each, LOL, then after 3, then 4, everytime he said no more....3 years later...BAM number 5!! Now I am saying NO MORE!! LOL

I get this all the time from people, it's hilarious.

All I have to say is, people with children don't know what they're missing. It goes both ways, you know

The last couple generations of my family resulted in about half of us missing out on the mothering/fathering gene . . . and while none of us has ever expressed a desire for children, the ones with children have often expressed a desire to be childless. I, for one, am filled with gratitude that I managed to find someone who hates children but loves chickens . . . I wasn't settling down until I found that combination

I have 2 kids very far apart in age. The youngest is a 2 1/2 yr old boy. They are the most rewarding thing I've ever done in my life.
The thing about having kids is there is no more "me" for moms especially with little kids which is kind of good and kind of bad. So I can see the childless people's point there.
I'll have to say the tiny little baby part was not that much fun for me. After about 1 1/2 yrs it's all fun! I love teaching them everything about the world!
Definitely, though, kids are not for everyone.

I'm sorry about the babies and hope they will make it. I also hope you did explain what he did was wrong and that he could have killed them. He's old enough to understand not to do that.
