I read a really good scam once where an undercover officer responding to the scam strung them along for weeks, being really obnoxious, talking about inappropriate things and finally claiming to be in love with the scammer.

You might want to see if the police department wants to play this out with you and nail the guy.

I just spoke to the sheriff and he said if I am not out any money and don't have the address to send the money to, that he can't do anything about it. I asked him about sending an e-mail to Freecycle and have them post it so that the public is aware of this scam and doesn't get ripped off.
I also thought that if each one of you who belong to Freecycle do the same with your group, it should spread the word pretty quickly! I am just afraid that some elderly people are going to get ripped off by thinking that "$200 for shipping is a great deal to get an $800 puppy!"
He was very nice about it and was sorry he couldn't help out more.
