Freeloaders?? .... now with small egg!

It's funny - she doesn't know quite what to do, there are two nest boxes and she has been in and out both, and in and out of the coop for the last hour.

We just got a dozen eggs from a friend who has got six isa-brown laying hens too!

I have 7 hens that are all going on 26 weeks. My BA started laying at 23 weeks and someone else just started laying last week. So the rest are still freeloading. Patience is the key.

Mine all would go in the nest and pick threw the hay.

But once they start setting in them then just wait a little longer and hopefully you will find an egg soon.

There was a cacophony of clucking fro the chook house, then silence, then more clucking a few minutes later. Tandoori emerged from the hen house and I went and checked the nest!! dammit - no egg!

I was walking back across the lawn to where my partner and his dad were eating lunch (omelettes) when the hen stopped in front of me and a egg just 'fell' out! it's a little small compared to the bought one on the right - but it's well formed and a start!

Congrats! That sounds similar to my BO laying! I had been outside hanging up a load of laundry. She pecked at my shoelaces for a minute then decided to wander over and check out the feeder. Halfway there she did the poop squat only instead out popped an egg! She kept walking as though she thought all she had done was poop. I was so excited to be there to actually see the egg laid.

Your chickens are beautiful....good luck. I have 7 and so far the most I have gotten is 4 in one day. But it's cold here and the just came into laying age in November. Hard to say - you just have to be patient. I do however have this year found that they are laying in odd spots, not just the nesting boxes. I am convinced that they have laid some in the yard and I will never know!!
