I'm on my first batch of chickens and just bought a hanging feeder. Problem is that my coup is prefab and doesnt have solid enough construction to hang from the wood. I'm wanting ideas of how to still hang the feed but not from the coop!

Thanks!

Heres the coop and the feeder is in the middle

Could you not use two plastic feeders that would be sufficiently light? - better for your birds to have a number of feed stations :)

Can you not hang it from right above where it sits? If there's not a thick enuf piece of framing to attach t to, then add one. Alternatively put it up on some bricks....

I'm not sure why the OP wants to hang it, but one reason folks often like to is because it is harder for rodents to get into it, if it is hung high enough to be out of their reach, where as if it is on the ground or even on bricks it's possible for them to get in, though putting it on bricks would be better then the ground. So a couple options I can think of. You could add a 2X2 across the bottom of the floor of the coop, and a 2X2 on each end running along the wire to the ground. That should hold that container full loaded. Or don't fill the container all the way up. I'm not sure how many birds you have but that container full ought to last them a good long while. Plus when your down on your hands and knees hanging it, if it's full it's going to be pretty heavy. I think if I were you I'd go the simplest approach first. Put a hook in, full the feeder 1/3 full or however much you think it will hold without being to heavy, hang it and see how long until you have to fill it again. And see if your happy with that. If yes, your done. If no then reinforce. Those are my thoughts.

Great thoughts! Thanks! I was hoping too to not have feed ruined by the rain. We have 11 birds that will be thinned out after we know who our roos are.
