Freeze Drying Digest

Pics
We just filled up the FD with mulberries. There's the regular black, some purple and some whites. We pre-froze them to see how much less time it takes to do the whole process.

Hello folks! I am starting a thread all around freeze drying. I am BRAND NEW to this subject. In fact, I'm doing my first run - the bread run - as I type this...

I'd love tips, tricks, and support for Q&A, along with what DOESN'T freeze dry (or rehydrate) well.
Just seeing this thread! Been FD for a couple years, now. Will have to browse through the posts :)

It may have been covered. But here's a tip: don't freeze dry raw meats or raw eggs in the same cycle as foods that will not require cooking when eaten.

When freeze drying onion or garlic (stinky), add a layer of bread over top to help absorb the odors. THEN - make "seasoned" bread crumbs of the FD bread after the cycle is finished. Good way to add bulk and flavor to recipes like meatloaf, meatballs, lasagna, etc
