French frogs

Just candled and 13/16 look good.  Two clears were fridge eggs, and One was from an EE that had shell irregularities and probably shouldn't have set anyways.

Bummer in that I only had 3 Orloff eggs from Peep - all from the fridge, and only one is good.  Oh well, If I hadn't pulled eggs out of the fridge I wouldn't have any of hers cooking at all. :)

Will set more eggs in March so we'll see what I have by then.

Good numbers! Its going to be fun, us all hatching around the same time. Having not hatched quail, I dont know if they will hatch Friday, Saturday or Sunday lol

I'm trying not to get too excited and ahead of myself, but I can't believe the response in the dead of winter. I think it's going to be a good spring

Great news!

That's really cool! How many cattle do you have?

120 head. Which, I case you don't know farmer speak (I didn't until I met DH) means we have 120 pregnant mama cows and about 120 milk calves. We keep the calves with the cows for about a year. Then we wean the calves about a month before the cows begin having their new calves.
We also keep back about 12 calves for our private meat sales. Because they are organic and grassfed we keep calves 2 years before processing, they grow slower.

Wow, I didn't know about how you count them, I always thought one head was one animal.

Would love to get some local beef from Northern NM, but DH wants to cut down on meat consumption and doesn't see the need for a chest freezer. I'll keep working on it though, and keep buying from the co-op where I have to pay through the nose.

Tell him the benefits of lowering his meat consumption is he should get higher quality meat when he does eat it. It is much cheaper to just buy a quarter of beef, need a chest freezer for that.

That's exactly what I've been telling him. We'll probably have one by the end of the year, I just have to be patient...
