Besides getting my prodigal hen back yesterday I got this in the mail!

I had to redneck in a couple of spacers, but boy is this thing easy to use. Those light eggs are actually light blue from a BCM x EE. Some Foley SLW and BD BCM.

I have a couple questions though.
How full can you fill the water troughs without spilling?
Do you trust the humidity reading? I'm having a hard time getting humidity over 25%.
SC, do you use the cooling setting? If you do, do you have to turn it off at lock down?

So this brand new Brinsea Advance 20 was $232 because it had "some cracks and scratches", but it is 100% perfect. Not a scratch on it. With the instructions I found COBRA papers with the previous owners name on it. I'm guessing the poor guy lost his job and returned this as broken to get his money back. You usually only get COBRA when you have been let go from a job or quit and have no other insurance options. Poor guy.

Sad for that guy, but man you got a deal

Fill water troughs 3/4. Any more and it will spill out of the air intakes when it turns. I'd double check humidity, but mine is always dead on. I have to fill both troughs just to maintain 42%, so that may be right in Utah. You can also close the air vent to make it rise a little.
I've never used the cooling yet. My fertile eggs have hatched, so if it ain't broke, I don't fix it. The recommendation from Brinsea is turn it on on day 7, and turn it off at lockdown

Ok, serious question. Today is day 16 and 18 for my two day staggered hatch, and I'm locking them all down together. Would you lock down today, or tomorrow on 17/19?

I was gonna say exactly what Friday said... :gig

I. Wouldn't up the humidity until tomorrow but I'd stop turning.
x2, unless your air cells are huge.

X2

Done many staggered, that worked best for both batches...

Somebody needed an attitude adjustment this morning. Does he look petrified? :D

That looks awesome! What are you using for the heating element?

I didn't pay good money for a Brinsea to be fiddlin with it on day blah blah blah. I'm going to set it, forget it, and candle at lockdown.

I don't blame you! It only takes a second. I guess I need to get comfortable with the fact that they are at the bottom of the food chain and to do my best and not get too cranked up if I loose one. But that's easier to say with some of the offspring on the ground.

That's funny, that was my nickname in high school, but I never got it because I'm 6'2

How do you get it up to 65% humidity on lockdown then?

ETA: I don't like the idea of restricting fresh oxygen at my altitude.
