French frogs

I forgot a few.

No portable buildings (including hoop houses). No agricultural fences, no electric fence. No ponds unless fenced, no accessory buildings without permits, and so on.

It's tempting to run up to our 40 acres where we could build a cabin and no one would ever even know it, but for now at least we will live here on our terms.
I truly would not do well living in a HOA setting......

I'd constantly be in trouble.......some of it I would do just to stir it up......

I would be in jail.

Yes I really cannot understand why anyone willingly agrees to give up so much freedom to live in one of those neighborhoods, heck they pay for it. Same color shades, limited color houses, no closeline, sounds like an Orwellian nightmare.

That's why we researched codes and zoning restrictions for quite a while before we moved. Can't handle neighborhood busybodies.

Of course that didn't help Walnut, when development encircled her place.

One of my college professors was in an HOA. He told the board that once he could see audited (or at least reviewed by a CPA Firm) financial statements outlining where all the money collected from the HOA members was going, he'd start paying his HOA dues again. Last I talked to him about it, he still hadn't paid and all the other neighbors stopped paying as well. I think at times HOA's can serve their purpose, but sometimes I think they try to justify their existence with ridiculous rules.

Here's the thing...we are not IN an HOA, nor in a subdivision. Our parcel is a direct chain to the original 1822 land patent, and our house is the original for the parcel. However, we are surrounded by subdivisions with restrictive HOAs and they get pissy at anyone who does not follow the same rules they have to. And since this is the wealthiest corner of the township, they have a lot of clout on the basis of tax revenue, and pretty much get their way at the board meetings. If they want to live in an HOA, I don't mind. Just remember that the HOA rules stop at the fence. Oh, that's right, they can't have fences.

I put my dozen week old chicks with the three week old poults in the rabbit cage to make room for the spitz and EE hatch. I started with one bossy little co...baby rooster, who decided to attack the turkeys that are three times his height.

Turkeys are gentle creatures compared to chickens, and took the little monster hanging off their necks with grace. But when I moved the whole dozen over, the turkeys moved to the corner and the chicks are hogging the warm spot, hogging the feeder, hogging the waterer...the poor turkeys are crying for me to come and save them.

Crossing my fingers that this goes well...

Morning Frogs.

Think I'll try to get some work done today, since yesterday was all wrapped up with the sick chicks I didn't work much. Had to cull one today, and the other straggler just looks like a failure to thrive. Wants to sleep all the time and seems to have trouble swallowing. But the other 8 are bouncing around the tote so I'll graduate to the bigger brooder tote this afternoon.

For those of you with Brinsea Octo's - do you tear apart the top to clean it or just blow out the dust with canned air?

Have a great day everyone!

I have been taking mine apart most times. I didn't take it completely apart once, but remember asking SC if he did, and he said yes, especially after big hatches. The fluff gets up in there, above the fan, so I now take the time to take it apart. Hair dryer works fine too, if you don't have the can stuff.

Morning Glories! We're off this week.

I'm calling my wife Dr. Oz these days. She's been nursing chicks. This splayed leg baby is almost straight now but he won't let the wife set him him back in the brooder. He starts crying and runs back in her hands. She named him Band-Aid:

So cute!

Good morning everybody! Little Eve is so much better today!!!! Not even a limp. ****
WV I hope his checkup goes well! I hope all of the complications have passed for him..
Sorry about your 2 little babies Friday. I'm guessing it never gets easier, even though it's necessary. Hugs to you.

Good morning Oz! Awesome that your off this week! Glad Band aid's leg is better! So is Eve's!

So glad to hear Eve is better today!!

And since you asked, here's the hubby update - doc visit went great! Basically cleared him for anything he feels up to doing! I think he was happiest to be cleared to drink beer when he wants to.

He's lost more weight and muscle mass, but he'll get all that back in time. The treadmill is already helping, and now I can be a little less "nurse" and a little more "wife".... ya know... "get up and get it yourself, you need the exercise!"

That's exactly me! Our parcel was the original also, and we are technically outside the lines, but we have to drive through it to get to our house. We pay dues, for winter road cleaning and summer road sealing. No one has complained about my chickens yet (Armand, the loud mouth!) but if they do, I hope we don't get into a pizzing contest about boundaries.

Scarey chit. Walnut I'm guessing grandfather laws are overridden by the HOA? Rights that should have protected your property. We live on 2 acres right outside of city limits. I had a mare on this property for 26 years. We have been here nearly 30 years and we are in the country but our neighbor to the east of us even further out of city limits is zoned IN town he has been there longer than us. Don't know if it mattered that he never had other animals. The neighbor to the west of us has an acre with some llamas? I'm not sure what their called they look kinda like a llama but are smaller And they had a horse for years too. . I'm so thankful we don't have to worry about that at this time! Especially with all these new babies

But we are wanting to move as soon as our son graduates from high school in 3 more years. We'll probably move closer to DH job. It will put us further out but at least we'll have our own chunk of land and some peace. I could never handle having a neighbor 'right there'. I need my privacy and space. If would kill me to ever have to move back in town!
