French frogs

Ask Walnut, not me... I have someone who likes to keep all the pretty ones...

I like to keep the pretty ones, too...that's how I ended up with feather footed EEs and the girly boy one.

But I don't make pets out of many of them. Scooter is a pet. I hope OG will be, and Little G, and Littler G. I will sell my pets, but only for breeding programs.

My ph@#%^ Phumb hurts like the dickens. We just nailed the roof cap on the coop and run. It's starting to look ok. I've been taking it out in public a little. You wanna see an after pic?
I'm so glad you didn't break something! It happens quick don't it...

Sure, I'll take a look at a pic! I'll trade ya a pic of my pretty purple ankle

And you are soooo right. Happened so quick! I was just glad I didn't have my phone in my hand like I normally do. My poor box of cigarettes got crushed!

I have never sat down and figured how much it costs to get X amount of chicks to X age. When I sell chicks, I take that money to buy feed. When I have to buy feed before the next chicks hatch, it's time to raise prices or hatch more chicks. It's not very scientific, but breaking even is good

I just wonder if it would be worthwhile......

set up a pen, for ten hatched chicks.......raise to laying age......monitor their feed, ie only feed from their own bin, and see what they sell for, to determine price per bird......like walnut said, excluding buildings, taxes, etc

If you start raising meat birds with incredible appetites, who eat incredible amounts of incredibly expensive food, you learn to calculate it. When I raised a few chickens as a hobby, eggs were "free" after the chickens were paid off when I could free range, until winter came. Then they ate far more feed than they gave back in eggs over the winter. Over a couple of seasons it averaged out to about twice what eggs cost at the store. Now we produce eggs for what they cost at the store, and sell for twice that. Heritage turkeys also do well for us.

:frow Good news! Congrats on the hatch. Can't wait to see pics! :hugs bummer. So what happened? If I dare ask....
Shrinkwrapped most of the hatch...even unpipped... there were 3 internal pipped I tried to save, the shell shattered right off the membrane, wasn't even attached to it anymore...
K! :hugs Thanks very much! This was awesome. LOL...looks like they play leapfrog. Good morning! Had to cull the little with splayed leg. She got worse during the night. We did what we could.
So sorry, Deb... you did all you could... :hugs
Almost 3 weeks old. I'm afraid I have a few males in this bunch, but they sure are cute. Even while they are just feathering out.
Look who hatches pretty babies... :gig
I was seriously thinking about that..... first hatch, was around 78%, this hatch was around 88%.......hard to justify the extra expense.... if I ever start incubating like BYC, and setting 200 eggs, maybe so.
If you just want something cheap, styro... but otherwise I suggest Brinsea or a cabinet... and the reason why is that if those are sell taken care of the resale value is worth it...
What about my new avatar? :D Quote: I packed up the POS that I bought and I'm taking it back. Fired it up last night and temps are all over the place. I can't risk putting my eggs in that thing!
If you want cheap styro hatcher, go with Hovabator 1602N... our co-op is the only one that carries it locally though, otherwise go through incubatorwarehouse.com... they're great to deal with...
Aw geez, that stinks. My fear is forgetting to push the trays back in after candling and having them jam and break the turner or pop the breaker. Or forgetting to latch the door. Or forgetting to keep water in the bucket. The reservoir is a sweet thing. Could you rig a bucket reservoir and float tray like my GQF has to make that part of your task effortless?
If I push it back where it was supposed to be, it runs for 3 full days perfect... I didn't and it was right next to the wafer... :/
Yep, but none are showing any signs of barring yet. I really don't think any of them are Katherine's anyway. :(
Did you see the 2 blue chicks from the parents in that auction post? They were male and female, 1 barred and 1 not... that's why I wanted you to look, those are what Katherine and Armands babies should look like...
:gig Stupid thing hurts! Swollen, black and blue, but somewhat better this morning. It'll be fine in a day or two. Thanks for asking. How's the phumb coming along?
Don't feel too bad, we have 6 steps off our front porch... I get halfway down and forget I'm going down stairs quite frequently... and I built them... :/
So, this Rube Goldberg contraption is a prototype draft tube humidifier for my hatcher. Advantages: control humidity level by placement of the hose further in or out of the fan airflow. Easy to refill water reservoir. No mess. No hot, wet sponges or pads. It's just a cheap pond mister in a canning jar, a funnel, a piece of tubing, and some water. Simple is good.
That is flockin awesome!!!

I allow the unusual pure colors to be pets, but OH likes to create mixes 'just to see' then proceeds to want to keep them all... it's been a battle to keep moving forward... but lately he has been seeing the improvements due to my choices, so hopefully it will get easier...
