I hatch at 45%-55%, not higher than 60% or I run into wet and sticky, not lower or I get dry membranes. That's true across all my hatchers, but the cooler is most forgiving of variation, the Ova Easy is the most constant, and the Eco 20 is the hardest to control. This time the Eco went overboard and fogged up in the heat of the hatch, making it harder for the late ones.

Thanks.

I was talking to someone on facebook that swore you should incubate at 60-65% and hatch at 70% plus. She was telling me there must be condensation on the windows at hatch or the humidity isn't high enough, and that I'm losing so many shipped eggs because the eggs are too dry.

That kind of advice came my way too, and it killed several dozen turkeys and many chicks.

I am now treating shipped eggs exactly like local, other than a few hours of rest before setting.

My GQF runs about 30% humidity during incubation with variations for indoor humidity changes. I don't worry too much about it. It's dry here during heating season so I use a water pan and reservoir. In the summer I just add water to the tray as needed to keep the air cells happy.

Sharp drops in humidity during hatch cause me issues so I try to keep it shut but I am not as good at it as SC.

I don't have near the number of hatches under my belt as you do, so thanks for sharing your experience.

The batch of Barnies I have in now I just popped them in when I got them home. The owner had picked them up from her PO the afternoon before, so they probably sat for 12 hours at her house.

I haven't even looked at them much, they are on day 4. Really hope some hatch.

I miss you too . had a little time today .I was able to leave Ben at the center for a little while and go to a heat and air supply house . I have the cabinet  completely apart . found some pipe wrap this morning that will make new gaskets and picked up new screws . The paint I can't match . guess I'll change the color some . this one is a lot worse than I thought . it needs some new corner angles .I'm going to have more in it than its worth :/  I'll have to hatch and sell a lot of chicks to break even .

:hugs

I know it's been slow going, but glad you were able to leave Ben at the Center for a bit... it will get better, I knkw it...
Sorry about the cabinet... let me know if you need help filling it... ;)

Insane... I usually don't add any water with my own eggs, but I will put a single shot glass of water in the bator with shipped eggs if they're medium sized or smaller, not large ones though...

For hatching, I do like 65%, but no higher... except when I did the turkeys... and I saw why... :gig
