French frogs

I'm sorry, just don't see the appeal of Silkies.

Kind of like looking for a dog, and getting a Pomeranian.

I'm glad some people like them though, would hate for them all to be homeless since they are so defenseless.

I completely agree!

LOL, I know it's a "to each their own" thing, but I don't get it either.....

Thanks! I have a white leghorn that was a bonus chick from a hatchery. I like her. Nice big white egg every day. The silvers are potential show quality. This is my first foray into higher quality bred chickens, and I'm nervous. Plus I should be getting some Am chicks next week if everything goes well with the hatch!

LOVE our leghorn girls. I always had a bit of a bias against them (based on what I now realize are a lot of misconceptions about them that you hear passed around), but we added some to our flock last year and I couldn't be more pleased with them, in fact I had ordered 7 more this spring but ended up selling off that whole batch of chicks since we decided to move later this year.

My ducks made little "snowshoe" trails from the back to the front of the house

Reminds me of our ducks in winter - the first year we had them we were hit with this freak storm that dumped 22 inches between the time they had gone to bed the night before and when they wanted to come out in the morning - they were NOT amused.

Deb, they are Spangled Russian Orloff. I've got 9 littles growing out and hope to have some nice ones to breed from next year.

Dad:
What a handsome boy! What is their temperament like? I have always liked the look of them.

I would have never thought about getting one either til last year. Our oldest daughter's in-laws needed to re-home a hatchery Silkie cockerel who was getting beat up by his brother. We fell in love with them! They are very gentle but all chicken. My wife's little pullet will take on our border collie when she gets too nosy.

LOL. My Orloffs are pretty calm, curious, and one of my hens is such a doll. (The other one is kind of snotty, but not bad) I have had a few cockerels go a bit nuts as they matured, and Jack tried to flog me a couple of times until I pinned him down and choked him - he hasn't bothered me since.

Definitely not edgy like my legbar. Lots of personality.

Hope you get some spring soon, Mare!
