French frogs

I'll go down tomorrow and take pics when I move the next batch of chicks out. We had already moved 3 week old chicks and turkeys to the coop floor, but the temps went into the 20s last night and they were pretty rough looking this morning with the wind blowing in from the south with the snow, so I popped them in the new brooder for the day. I'll kick them out tomorrow, when it warms up, and stick the one week olds in the box.

This is the brooder type that we used at the farmstore I used to work for - LOVED them - added advantage being it kept people from picking up and handling the chicks (and then putting them back in the wrong breed group) - like you see at some stores.

That's a good design for production houses but I only have one exposed wall on my brooder, and that is the door. It is literally crammed into the smallest room of my turkey coop so that it uses as much non-floor space as is reasonable.

The multi-level brooders at the feedstore I usually go to have feeders that are on the outside of the brooder, and the chicks stick their heads out to eat--it's pretty cool. Of course, I was just there yesterday, so I won't be there for a couple of weeks, and I probably can't justify going out there just to take a picture... Wait a minute--let me see if I can find any pics online--the brooders are metal, so most likely manufactured... Aha! Better than I would've been able to take, anyway. I bet you could figure out something, Walnut. I've now got something involving an L-shaped pvc feeder and some form of attachment floating around in the back of my head...
I've been thinking of a long window covered in wire, like chicken wire, in the side of the brooder with a gutter trough attached outside... came from looking at those, lol...
It is better.... I gave a big burst of Prednisone yesterday.... And it helped. ..I wasn't treating it hard enough. Now I can back off a little a day.... And remember from now on not to quit taking the stuff in the middle of winter. Kind of like a depressed person decides they don't need their pills anymore do they quit taking them..... Then they end up backwards.
Take care of yourself, my friend... :hugs
If duck personalities are as sweet as their pictures I can understand why you guys love them so much! :love
Yep, they sure are! Unless they're broody, lol...
Have 4 comet mutts and 3 LOs on day 13, added 8 more LOs and 10 golden sebrights. I'm having good interest in chicks. Most of this last hatch is already sold. Still incubating in the Brinsea. Will use the FI for hatching since this last one went so well. :)
:highfive: Got my :fl for the next set!!
I want some but cant justify the money.
:hugs Yep, my OH was gonna get me a set of those... but didn't get them while he was working the big $ job, so that went back to the wishlist... :gig

Saw someone post something like that that they were using for their outdoor birds, though I never understood how they would keep the feed dry in that situation as it was an open top piece of gutter they were using - maybe they were giving FF so it didn't matter?

Yeah, seen that for FF, but also saw one that snapped on gutter covers at night and had a strip of aluminum hung above it slanted to make a rain guard...
