I have one non-freeloader! One of the pullets left me this (unless it was Cookies'n'Cream, but she's not quite done molting yet, and it's a bit smaller than hers--and there's a blood streak)

Trying to get a good picture of the color--as you can see, it matches the sage sheet pretty darn well, but that pic is washed out. The actual color is in between all those (and Cookies' eggs match that green photo, though I know that after molt they darken again for a bit)

Edited to add: 'Twas in the nest box, and my SLW has been squatting for me the last couple of days.

I saw that on facebook!!!! It is a pretty egg!!!! I got a SLP egg finally today after 5-6 months????

As tempted as I was I am glad I did not shoot the dog. We talked to them and let them know he got a chicken. The wife, who I like, she is very nice, said she was very sorry and is going to talk to another neighbor about buying a new chicken to replace the one eaten.
I understand the risk of illness, but seeing as I am now down to 2 birds, I figure I am willing to risk it.
The real problem is keeping him from coming back :/ It is partially my fault. When he showed up the first time I figured he was a lost hunting dog. I was nice to him, fed him, and posted his picture all over the internet. When it turned out he was a neighbors, I should have worried about him comming back.

a stray dog isn't your fault...he was stray necks you were nice. They needs to keep him off your property. Your chicken didn't go to his house and commit suicide.I understand I'm not cruel. Just the facts. I had a similar issue with my neighbors dog.

I no longer give 2nd chances to loose dogs... did that once, had 12 killed and 3 others I had to put down...

The next night it was 32... wiped out my entire grow out pen... dogs are a rolling haybale, they get forked on sight now...

Oh I know, but I really do like the wife....And I do not like many people here. We all let our dogs run around here, but rarely have a problem. The dogs usually have enough space to be happy. Here's for hoping this is settled :/
I had a friend suggest getting a Great Pyrenees. But I hear they have a huge territory, does anyone know how large?
