French frogs

I was wondering if all you expert hatchers have seen a fluid bubble on a chicks shoulder at hatch? A little backstory...I had one pipped polish egg before bed last night that pipped yesterday afternoon (and one malpositioned pip that I noticed around 8:30pm). When I woke up this morning my humidity in the brinsea 20 was down to 50%. The pipped polish egg had started to zip but the zip line was covered in a golden crust. I couldn't see the chicks beak. So I took the egg out and started wetting the crust and picking it off. I got the beak out but it was sealed shut. More warm water on a qtip. I could not peel the membrane or shell away. It was glued solid. I soaked the egg in warm water and slowly started getting the chick out but it wasn't breathing. So I rubbed it vigorously in a towel down its back, and it started to breath. I noticed a big lump of fluid on its shoulder. It's still alive but very weak. Did this happen because of the low humidity? What is the fluid bubble? Should I not even worry about it at this point, since the chick was near dead?

My little Psycho chick had one. She was the one that had the cord wrapped around her leg, tying her foot up around her neck. She wore her own neck raw. After isolating her and letting it heal, the bubble went away. She's happy and healthy today!

Good luck Ruby, maybe it came from the way she was positioned in the egg, which also messed up her zip?

They are doing much better now.

The lavender one pecking at the food is probably a Golden Narragansett. The pale one is probably a Bourbon Buff. One may be bronze or Narragansett, and the other three look like Red Bronze.

Seems someone here has SF, I just can't remember who. Not enough coffee in me yet.

What all breeds do you have now? I saw your silkies and you are getting Ams from SC?

ETA you have silkies in the bator now, right?

I'm rebuilding. We married off three last year and have two away at college. Only the baby left at home so I have a little more time and hopefully a little more money. We've had a home flock that has diminished through natural attrition and two predator attacks. We have three very old hens, a white rock, SLW, and a BO. We adopted a Silkie Cockrell a while back and got interested in them. We bought two silkie pullets last month and are making our first attempt at hatching with shipped Silkie eggs and one of our own crosses. I had EEs years ago and that's why I'm wanting the AMs. I liked their personality. My wife keeps kids so I need the gentle chickens that's why I'm interested in the SF.
Silkies are due Thursday.

The last two just popped, but the five in the brooder had a rough night. At some point between midnight and 7 a.m. the brooder lamp went out and the were flat on the floor, cold and stiff. The oldest has recovered, the youngest passed, and the other two are in a fight for their life, they can't stand any more.
Oh no, that's terrible! :hugs

Thank you. Glad to hear that it went away on its own and she was ok! I didn't want to bug you yesterday since I'm already in lockdown, I'll have to wait till this hatch is over to begin experimenting with the 20 and humidity. So I'll bombard you with questions when I begin my experiments! ;)

Glad to hear they pulled through!! They're beautiful!

What incubator do you hatch in?

Good thing you jerked your hand back, Dan. Looks like they would have ate clean down to the bone!
LOL

They might have!

Afternoon yall, an update on the little fella that ruptured the yolk sac, he's standing on his own and looking around, I got a little honey water in him, I'll try some moist food a little later and see if he'll take any. I haven't taken any pics of the Icees yet but I promise they're coming :)
