French frogs

Just found one of my new babies dead. They were all doing well at 4am. Don't know what happened? He was the last born and seemed very healthy. He was a pretty blue.

bummer, bud.........sorry to hear........

I hate that. Seems like the last to hatch are the ones that may have issues. That's why I don't assist.
If it helps, I'm going to load you up with blue this weekend

That's what I'm finding with the quail also.

#10 hatched around 10:00 last night. When I moved 9 and 10 to the brooder, I had another one that had started to zip (before #9) but then stopped. It had been several hours and all he was doing was making a bigger hole. No rotation. So I moistened the membrane and put him back. The last other one with a pip had been rolled, so I uprighted it, and flicked the piece of shell off, and couldn't find a hole in the membrane. Dug a little bit to find the beak, opened the membrane a bit and dampened it too.

A few minutes later, 11 and 12 started zipping and hatched around midnight. #12 came out with the most awful goo! Covered in it. And a bubble on his shoulder. Then #11 started crawling through it, so I quickly pulled 12 out and wiped it up, and wiped him off, got it out of his eyes, and put them back in.

The last 2 (assisted ones) are still sitting in there, but I believe they will be mercifully culled when I get home. I'd love to see the one make it out, because its another blonde, but the one that made the huge hole will hopefully just give up. I don't think it stands much chance.

But I'm very happy with 12!! Oh, #11 is a bit splay legged, but I didn't hobble it. We'll see if he improves today.

This is #12:

This morning. Its not hard like glue. Just crusty. He'll clean it off easily. But he's getting around fine so far.
