French frogs

That's what I'm finding with the quail also.

#10 hatched around 10:00 last night. When I moved 9 and 10 to the brooder, I had another one that had started to zip (before #9) but then stopped. It had been several hours and all he was doing was making a bigger hole. No rotation. So I moistened the membrane and put him back. The last other one with a pip had been rolled, so I uprighted it, and flicked the piece of shell off, and couldn't find a hole in the membrane. Dug a little bit to find the beak, opened the membrane a bit and dampened it too.

A few minutes later, 11 and 12 started zipping and hatched around midnight. #12 came out with the most awful goo! Covered in it. And a bubble on his shoulder. Then #11 started crawling through it, so I quickly pulled 12 out and wiped it up, and wiped him off, got it out of his eyes, and put them back in.

The last 2 (assisted ones) are still sitting in there, but I believe they will be mercifully culled when I get home. I'd love to see the one make it out, because its another blonde, but the one that made the huge hole will hopefully just give up. I don't think it stands much chance.

But I'm very happy with 12!! Oh, #11 is a bit splay legged, but I didn't hobble it. We'll see if he improves today.

This is #12:

This morning. Its not hard like glue. Just crusty. He'll clean it off easily. But he's getting around fine so far.

Sorry about that. You're hatching a lot now, so you may turn a bluer shade of purple...
My last hatched last night, a splash, and it was sticky. It was about 16 hours behind the rest. I put it in the brooder this morning, and hopefully it will be ok when I get home.
I set a dozen cuckoo marans and another dozen of Johnny's eggs before I left for work, and lockdown in incubator #2 is tonight

That looks like yolk on #12. Be especially sure this one drinks and eats right away.

Assuming all are set at once, last hatchers do seem the weakest.

Thanks! And it really wasn't as yellow as the picture appears, but there is a blood vessel in there. I think it was just a small chick in one of the larger eggs. More albumen? His belly is fine, and he was getting around well when I left this morning, so we'll see in a few hours. I hope I got enough cleared off around his vent though! They are so tiny to handle, even with my small hands.

The egg right beside that one is one that I have a little hope for, the next one over is the one that made the big hole, and I don't hold much hope for. The one I'm still hoping for was my 2nd favorite egg, as far as shell color. My first fav was one of the 2 that quit late. Those 2 and #12 were the 3 that I was suspect about at lockdown.

I hatched a lot last year, and this year is looking like the incubators won't even cool down between sets. I'm turning even more blue than I was. I just don't have the time to spend on weak chicks, and I sure don't want to get a reputation for selling chicks to my customers that die later. Right now, I hold them for at least 4 days before selling to make sure they are eating, drinking, and vigorous.
Even though only 7 hatched in this weekend's set, they are great, and 2 or 3 look spectacular. I think Oz's premonition may have been right. They're his, though. I get the feeling he may decide to show one day, and I'd love to see one of my birds place or win at a show. One blue in particular is gorgeous. Nice, big, fluffy chick with dark blue down and a very full muff. My gut tells me rooster, but I think it will be a great one

And congrats on setting again. We might just be doing this together in another 3 weeks...

Maybe you'll have enough to get me on your waiting list next year.

I hatched out a couple of exceptional turkeys from my flock, and it looks like Ravyn may have gotten one too. I've been stirring up the gene pool with non-APA color varieties (domestic turkeys are all one breed, so it's not a bad thing). I look forward to sharing my newest with you as he grows in his mature feathers. He's the turkey equivalent of a blue laced red Wyandotte, but the colors are not quite so bold.

Looking forward to pics of those!

Uh...The Anderson Bantam Club host a show November 2016 at the T. E. Garrison arena.

Oh my gosh you have my chicken!! Lol I have an Easter Egger with the exact same color patterns! And she has that same beautiful slate blue color in her wings also! My girl is a sweetheart!
No, but they did have garlic a while back. These eggs r a few weeks old, I just can't remember but definitely none of the above
How weird, surely it was just a fluke. I scrambled 18 eggs (all are small) so hopefully this won't happen again! Thanks for replying to my post
