Think of splash as a dilution gene. If I mated my splash rooster to my splash hen, I would get 100% splash chicks, but the dark color would start washing out. I'm trying to use the darkest birds possible to produce the colors I want. I have 3 blue hens with the black rooster, and all are a much lighter blue than the one in the other pen. If I get darker hens this year, I will replace those 3 lighter ones
