I hatched out one lone poult midweek, and she was getting needy. So I stopped at Family Farm and home and picked up four Orlopp Bronze poults and two White poults. Orlopp Bronze are "classic" broad breasted bronze turkeys with tightly controlled genetics, so they are what they are. I tried to pick all hen poults, we'll see how I did. As I have two hatchery BBB hens now, it will be interesting to see how these grow out. The hatchery birds' conformation is the typical 35 pound monster...like a Cornish x Rock on steroids.

You know I couldn't miss that! I didn't know I had Ohiki due either... til one of the hens jumped out to grab a drink and relieve herself and there was a little black fuzzlet looking up at me!

I love what you're doing with the BBB's and others... I couldn't get those, I would feel way to sorry for them... poor things... but that's also why I won't do meaties either... :/

Hardware cloth for dividers works best if you double it over and keep the fold as the top edge... and as high as possible... think it's best when used in the styrobators as there's more head room...

Way to go on the hatch and the alternative...

I haven't even started drinking yet but soon Out Back for dinner did I say I don't like restaurants . Oh I took 24 roosters and 8 pullets to the sale

there were a pair of white turkeys there and several black ones . not many chicken .A chit load of out side junk I swear that organ was back different auctioneer again . didn't stay

I love what you're doing with the BBB's and others... I couldn't get those, I would feel way to sorry for them... poor things... but that's also why I won't do meaties either...

Cornish x Rock hatchery birds are just nasty. Those coming from Frmboyinthecity should be much, much better, since they come from "normal" for the breed stock, not highly selected parent lines.

The BBB are often pathetic. The recent "development" that has resulted in legs that dislocate and break under the birds' weight, that leads to sudden heart attacks, and that leaves them prone to disease as they have to sleep on the floor, makes me sick. Yet I don't have enough lifetime left to start with pure heritage stock and select one generation per year to develop meatier birds. This is my second year of reverse engineering. I still have heavy boned birds, but they can fly a few feet up. Others are full heritage, small and light. It will probably take one more year of crossing in BB to get breeding stock.
