Morning guys! I like the longer evenings too Bert, but makes it hard to get up in the mornings. A few chick pics before I get busy today. @frmboyinthecity - I think the white on that one chick was flash from the camera, while it was still drying off. I can't find any white on it now. Last pic I believe is Katherine's baby.

I like the longer evenings as well. Now if I can just stop traveling for long enough to do anything. March is a lot of travel. WV, maybe you got lucky and got girls then!

I think what you call decent is pretty awesome.........

Little boogers just won't hold still. I snap my fingers above their heads, try to get them to look at the camera. They usually turn away, or peck the floor, just as it captures. Many blurry ones to go back and delete!

This is the chick that pipped the wrong end, but still zipped out without any assistance. Its got a bum left leg. I hope it doesn't turn out to be a cull.
The leg is folded in tightly and it doesn't want to stretch it out, so I'm hoping a little exercise will fix it. I worked with it a lot last night, so we'll see.
And its the only one with 5 toes. Splash, I believe? I hope it makes it.

It is, thanks. Go back to surgeon tomorrow and start rehab. I guess I practice squeezing! Hope my wife understands it's just part of my treatment and recovery!

I wish I knew for sure who came from who, but I think I'll post some on the silkie thread and see what those experts think. The only one I can know for sure is the one with 5 toes must have come from a silkie. I thought I had their eggs identified, until I verified that Katherine was laying. I did catch her in the nest box yesterday, and got her egg. I'm just hoping it will be more obvious when they feather up and bodies fill in.

I candled 4 of the shipped Appenzeller Spitzhaubens and they are already showing veining after two days!  White eggs are so easy to candle.

Those are such pretty birds. I watched a video of a European poultry show with AS and they were spectacular. I'd like to try them sometime.

So nothing from the second set?

One on Saturday night, but not even a pip in the other 5. If nothing is happening when I get home tonight, I'll clean up and set another batch from both pens. We had some of Silas' eggs for breakfast yesterday, and he's up to 90% fertile, so hopefully Johnny will be better. I've noticed the other hens in that pen are getting a little roughed up
