French frogs

Yes, my grandma told very similar, only they were fortunate to have a little money. They always had shoes but they did not wear them until they got to the school (to keep down on wear) and Grandma had a smart horse that would take her to school and go home again alone. Her father would then let the horse out when it was time for school to end and it would go pick her up.
(I was fortunate enough to live with Grandma a few years before she died, wrote down as many stories as I could)
:D

Oh man! I wished I had been smart enough to record my grandparents stories.

I did not get them all down, she had a million. I grew up in the same town my father, grandma, and great grandpa grew up in. So every Sunday everyone would go to Great grandpa's house for doughnuts and coffee and they would go back and forth BSing each other. It was a great way to grow up, I wish I had appreciated it more at the time.

I miss those days. My folks moved away from our home town when I was young. I never got used to being away from my grandparents.

That is one of my biggest regrets about my own kiddos -- their childhood was so different than my own, I had so much extended family around all the time - from grandparents to cousins - that hardly a week went by that we didn't go see someone or have someone come see us.......my kids have had the exact opposite experience as within weeks of DH and I getting married his orders took us across the country from everyone and we have not been less than 2300 miles from them since, so my kids have cousins they don't even know and see their grandparents once a year, if that.

mine too... My kids here up here in the U.P. my son's didn't meet any of my family until my daughter was born that was when my mom started to come up and visit. We were pretty much isolated from the rest of the family.
Mostly by design..... Then my brother and mother moved up here...... My boys still have zero contact with my mom........ But I think I'm this instance it was better fit them..... We were an extremely close family unit.
Part of my wife's issues are she never got over the boys moving out.

I fished today.... Lost one to a broken line. But I ran into my friend Patrick.... The one on the pics with the big fish....... He's been guiding steel headhead on the Manistique river and told me if I wanted I could run down there with him Monday. I'm excited cuz he's the best I've ever fished with. He's been pulling 20 some days.

He grew up with my kids..... He also was a MMA pro fighter for years so he could fish.... He was undefeated but gave it up to save his body and become a fishing guide which was his dream job.
