So here is a 3 generation picture, i have never seen this before.

Grandma is on the left, her daughter (from her first litter) is on the right. The kittens are a mix of Grandmas second batch, and Daughters first batch, they share nursing. They jusy jump in and which ever kitten is hungry finds milk.
They were both keeping their kittens under the porch at first. But i opened up the garage to clean it and Grandma decided to move both litters into this tub. Her Daughter was not too happy with having her kittens taken at first, but seems to have adjusted.

Fabulous -- she looks quite pleased, that's a lot of chicks!
Vent sexing ducklings is way different than chicks... someone posted a comparison pic somewhere recently for male and female chicks, wish I could remember where it was... much harder to tell the difference and sometimes the breed makes a difference too... ducks either pop out or not, lol...

Good luck on the cig bit... that's the only thing keeping me partially sane...

Gorgeous chickies!!
Might have been me? This one....?

Dad quit cold turkey when mom became pregnant with me using sunflower seeds. He is a bit addicted to sunflower seeds now, but figures that is minor.
One of the attempts at quitting DH made he also went to sunflower seeds, alas the quitting didn't stick.........

She looks so proud of herself, too! That is such a sweet sight. Eventually I will get there, once I can wean DH off of production birds.
Very proud! She did 3 broods for us last year, 1 entirely from the bator... a lot of people swear by Silkies for broodys, but I prefer a good lf... Silkies are great setters and do good caring for the chicks, but you can't beat a great broody that teaches full independence and self sufficiency as quickly as she does... OH used to get irritated with me cuz I would always mess with the broodys on the nest, but good ones don't break from that and they learn to trust me to help if need arises... that is a must in our flocks... I hope you can get there someday, but baby steps... :D ;)
Such precious little babies!! :love
Thanks! Will try to get some closer ups to show the almost feathered and the newer hatched, lol...

Very well could have been!! I could not remember where I saw that in my skimming around! Thanks, OGM!! That is the exact pic I had seen... now I see why hatcheries can make so many mistakes, lol...

I actually have people here in town if I want to just try with mixes. The reason I was having so much trouble finding eggs to test with was that I was being picky... Though I suppose we could go through Bandon on our way back from the trip we're planning this summer (after fireworks selling season, PaperKid's 13th birthday (July 11) and our 19th anniversary (July 12--obviously we didn't do much on the date of our 6th anniversary
wink.png
though we were smart and celebrated the weekend before, even though PaperBaby (PK's original online name) wasn't due until the 20th). Though now that I've looked, the trip that Mr. P really wants to make isn't possible... (He wanted to go to Boom City, but their fireworks selling season ends when ours does...) I'm still going to be stubborn and insist on visiting my family, for a change...

Oo, any good egg folks in the Willamette Valley or in/near Portland?

I've actually got another girl broody somewhere--the white EE we got on PaperKid's birthday disappeared, and I feared the worst, then she kept showing up in the morning for fermented feed
roll.png
and there was a ginormous broody poo right in the middle of the walkway one morning. I haven't been able to look for her 'cause we've been letting someone stay here for a bit, and I was giving him space, but he's left town now, so I can poke around everywhere... I'd had the girls look, but neither is a particularly thorough searcher (7 and 12, so par for the course). Though, since she's a good flyer, it's completely possible that she's brooding those infertile eggs on the other side of the fence... If I can find her, I'll put her in the pen in the coop--if she breaks from that, great, because it's been maybe a month or so. If not, and nothing hatches, I can always make a trip to one of the feed stores--which I'd need to do if only 1 hatches anyway.
