I've read, 'if your short on trouble, get a goat.' I'm aware of those issues and this has been a long time coming, not an impuse buy I promise

Goats are more of a climber than a jumper. like anything else proper fencing will keep them in . can't use cattle wire. use horse and goat wire .I don't how they do it but they can get their head through some very small holes. you can train a goat to titter. have to use a chain they will chew through a rope. And Billy goats smell real bad .

Wish you could go to the sale where we go and see what they are selling for . and what brings the most . They sell high if they are big goats . not worried about you though you'll sell it when the time comes.

:) I'm glad you have confidence in me :) new chain link is being given to me remmember? I'm positive it'll hold em without an issue so longs they have enough space and we watch em. They have a bad habit of standing on a fence to make it sag and so longs I can make sure that doesn't happen, were cool. I'm paying 35$ each, as two n half wk bottle babies. I've looked a good bit these aren't an adorable impulse buy. They're La Mancha pure bred from a dairy, so they'll breed to my milk does, theyre triplet lines just excess boys. They are going to be healthier than something from the stock yard and I'll have their background. plan is to neutur one and keep the other intact so they have company and I can keep them separate of the does so as not too taint the milk whenever I can start some does... Will probly buy the does as bottles from the stock yard I heard last winter they went right with the bull calves for 5$/head

Well I like the acreage idea better. My biggest concern with you asking an acquaintance is potential drama down the road. Something always happens, and unless you have relaxed people, drama ensues and then you have a big headache.

Good point, though I was planning on having everything in writing, to be on the safe side. Drama's still possible with everything in writing, of course, but easier to limit it that way.

Another good point...

Nice cool sensible heads are exactly why I asked, so I can't really complain... If I did, it'd be about as pointless as my telling the computer to do what I want, not what I tell it to

Some of my parents friends have La Mancha's, BIG goats, I think their biggest buck is probably about 350lbs and he's still growing.

I forgot to comment on that :hide

I've thought A Lot about keeping poultry away from home, and how lots of people keep their farm away from home. I think the constant trips to and from will wear you down more than you realize as your trying to accomate everything, at least at first. I think for me it would entirely depend on my relationship with that person and maybe before you made that sort of commitment you could at least get to know these ladies a little better?

Oh no! These aren't like that, you know diff lines can be Very different? This dairy farmer has had her line for around 35 years! I was reading on the American goat federation that they're to be a Smaller breed of the medium category standing 28-30" at the shoulder. Your friends line sounds like it's been crossed with boers to make a more suitable meat goat.

I'm just saying he's the biggest goat I've seen. No, they're pure, they show theirs.

Yet another good set of points... 'Tis only 10-15 minutes away, but it could get wearisome, especially during set up. And realistically, this is me we're talking about--the likelihood that I'd work up the gumption to actually initiate an arrangement like this, where it sounds like it's mostly to my benefit? Not very large, anyway.
