They are lovely looking birds. I hadn't really heard much about them until joining BYC, but I have become more and more intrigued by them, especially the good looking ones like your Viktor! Since you mention growth/maturity rate, does that mean they are also among the later to lay breeds?

My broody chick hatched 4 of 9 last week. When she got off the other 5 eggs, I checked them. 1 had internally pipped, 2 were alive, but appeared wayyy behind the others, and 2 were DIS. The internal pipper hatched (with my assistance), but it wasn't thriving. I decided to give it to another hen that is "trying" to go broody. (I've been waiting to get enough eggs to give her some). She took care of it overnight, after I gave it to her in the dark, but later yesterday, she wasn't caring for it, so I put it with the original momma, and the 4 she hatched. She took it in for a while, as I checked on it several times. But later I checked, and it was face down in the bedding, almost dead. I pulled it out and they had pecked it pretty badly. So I had to cull it.

Also lost a serama chick, week old one that just wasn't thriving.

I swear this has been one roller coaster week!
