So it would seem. They get a scoop in the morning and a scoop in the evening I dot know if you'd call that restricted or not but they almost always have feed left in their feeder (It's a small chick feeder) They do have a 6'x4' tractor though. HmmThe stress of growing those out of proportion bodies with high metabolism rates in hot weather can be too much for them. Do you restrict feed or free range them? If left to their own appetite they can eat themselves to death in as little as 8 weeks.
Since they are not good at scratching out holes in the dirt, if you give them dirt in the shade, ideally under a tree or under a double roof (one to block the sun, one a couple feet lower to provide real shelter) and whatever breeze is available, lots of water, and no excitement, they should handle those hot days. My two big gals just sit with their wings out and pant. I just make sure that the kids are outside with all their ruckus so these two can just relax and take it easy.
