French frogs

Does not sound right. How old? Have pics? Broad Breasted Bronze hen, color-wise, is identical to the tom except a little white or off-white stippling on the tips of the breast feathers on the hen. Broad Breasted Hen weight at 24 weeks should be 18-24 pounds, at maturity up to 35. Broad Breasted Tom weight at 24 weeks should be 22-35 pounds, at maturity up to 55 but they often don't make it. 52 pounder:
I didn't think so. They're 12 weeks I think, somewhere around there anyway. I don't have pics, I was gonna get some tomorrow.

I have about 50 growing out from 4 weeks to 4 months, 100% heritage - 75% broad breasted from my flock and a couple of hatchery Orlopp Bronze and one hatchery BBW. There are several traits that help sort them out, size is only one. Length of leg, thickness of leg, shape of beak, shape of head, and shape of body from overhead will classify your bird.

I see

That poult is a cull. While it was hatched from BBB (carrying white and blackwing bronze gene like many BBB), it is genetically imperfect and will never catch up with the others. It may hit 10-12 pounds by harvest time, the others will easily be twice that by Thanksgiving.

The shape of the head shows the broad breasted genetics, as does the shape and width of the beak. I'll go down to the coop after this meeting and get a picture of an assortment of mine.

I have a cull chicken that is like your turkey. It is the size of a bantam but is LF breeding.

Ah

And if you stop moving, they will try to pull the seams, buttons, shoelaces, zippers, tags, patterns and sleeves off your clothes...peck every birthmark, bug bite, and wound, and pull your hair and jewelry. Not in meanness, just in curiousity, but competitive curiosity can be a hazardous thing! When five or six of them are jockeying to be the one to grab the button on the side pocket of my cargo shorts, someone is going to miss and hit skin.

I love raising these goofy birds.

OG, one of last year's babies, holds the scratch bin hostage. You may not take a scoop of food away without him grabbing the first few bites. If you do, he will reach over the side of the garbage can and help himself.

Today one of the older babies grabbed a wild rabbit by the ear through the fence. I had to holler at them so they'd let the silly rabbit go.
