UPDATE: She just replied back saying she wont go under $40 each and she says that she knows they are hard to come by and are worth a lot. She also gave me some prices of a man in Victoria who sell his Marans, he sells his fertile eggs form $80-$100 for 1 doz. .

Wow. I have seen worse for certain breeds, but still, wow. I would almost buy hatching eggs from the one guy and sell the extra chicks to cover the costs. But then, I am a bit chick-crazy.

Bright side, they still aren't as bad as tolbunt polish in the US. One chick for a breeder I found, unsexed, was $75. Still a high price for dark eggs though. :/

Wow this is getting a lot I just sent an email to the French Marans Club of Australia and he said that I was lucky to have such an offer he knows pullets that sell for $200

Yep - Marans are very rare in Australia. I have researched them as well, Terry the fellow you mentioned in VIC is the only person I know who sells them regularly-ish.

His price is fair for Oz - and I think the price your lady is asking for a 12wk old is also fair.

Depends how badly you want those dark eggs!! At the moment he is seeking interest from people who may want to join a syndicate to import the Black Copper Marans into Australia - we currently have none. $2700 a share - so the $50 bucks isn't looking so bad now hey?

If you just want your average backyard layer try Gumtree - you will find Isa's and hybrids for around $15 ea.
