Frequency of clipping wings?

When I would clip wings I always do the right wing. That is so I know if I actually got the bird or not and none would slip by me. My latest bunch of chicks nothing less than a roof or wire overhead kept them in.

I trim both wings on my hens. We tried clipping one side only, but they still managed to fly up into our maple tree. So both wings it was, and we haven't had any trouble since then.

We trim our chicken's wings as needed. Once a full feather or two come up we trim 'em all back again. It's not at any specific dates or times, just when we feel like their feathers are getting a little bit long.

You learn something new everyday. I'd always heard you trim one wing to offset their balance and therefore unable to fly.

It is better to only trim one, or use a more conservative trim if doing both. When both are trimmed they can take some hard landings and hurt their feet and legs.

I have all ways trimmed just one side and have had no problem with them flying off. I do this on my guineas at least. They take a couple of hard hit but learn very quickly not to try and fly.
