OMG I am shaking with ebbcitment as i write this, 18 days ago i set 5 eggs as a trial run as i got my first incubator - this is also my first time hatching anything!!! The temps been great and have keept humidity on 50% the whole period then tried to raise it for lockdown (raised it to 58% but i think the hygrometres broken as the glass is fogged up a little)....

And just about 10 mins ago I saw a pip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GAHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! I am sooooooooo happy and scared and everything at the same time!!!! i am shaking as i write this and keep checking the bator every ten seconds - literally!! OMG what is they dont hatch or something?!?!?! what if i muck it all up!?!?!?! wow im sooo worried/ scared/ excited/thrilled all at once!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I definately will not sleep at all now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GAHHHH i just rang my best friend and sceamed down the phone for like 10 mins

Climb down from the roof... yep.... I didn't get a wink of sleep...Now do NOT reach in and grab babies out... control yourself...This is lockdown... the hardest part..No saving one!!! (really).. I am so excited for you.. You must post us some pix!!! what kind of eggies....I am listening!!! I can't hear them from here.. I have just completed lockdown and mine are due to come out today....the first hatched has been done for 48 hours... the last for 12.... I ended up with a couple that didn't hatch.. But I was a good girl and got 24 babies...(oops overkill) I will post on the April hatch thread that Pinkchick put up if I can find it.. you should post pix there!!!

Is mu humidity too high??? the stupid hydrometre says 58% but after filling all the wells of the hovabator i added 5 sponges and to more waterdishes and the hum wont go any higher or is the hydro thing broken as the glass has water droplwts on it?!?!?! Thats so much for hearing me im soo excited!!!!!!! Its been nearly an our and nothing else has happened is it ok???? they went into lock down a few hours before this bugger hatched early i was candling them one last time and found his beak in the airsack and a little pip!!! umm it will be a surprise as far as breeds as the lady i got them off has a coop with silkies, hamburg, frizzle and crosses........

Congrats to you!! Yeah, your humidity may be a bit high if the glass is fogging up, remove a vent and wait for it to clear up and replace it. Oh boy, I hope an experienced hatcher jumps on here soon!!

ok the fog has cleared but theres still droplets arounbds the very edges of the glass - i think they will take a while to go away!!! haha i am a true blue aussie - all the way!!!! yes im so happy their hatching - i told all my extended family i would drive to all their houses and show them my babies

please please please be ok!!! i will kill myself if something goes wrong on my acount........ *bites fingernails* i really want to candle the hatching egg to see if there is any movements but i will resist!!!!

Dont go opening that bator now...just leave those guys to it... Be patient...it will take a while... I know its so hard- instead of candling... watch for wobbles - thats what i do. It might be 5 minutes before you see the egg move- but every so often the chick will make the whole egg shake.

thanks for the tip!!!!!!!! - that makes me so much better i thourght i may have killed it by high humidity and opening the bator but the egg shook!!!!!!! GAHHHH!!!!! im going to have a shower and off to bed but i wont be able to sleep and only god knows what time ill be up in the moring

i really hope they hatch!!!!!!!! Thanks guys!!

ok so another one has pipped!!!!!!! YAY!!! im getting impatient tho as the egg that pipped last night hasnt pipped again or anymore... tis still alive as it wobbles and cheaps but im afraid could my humidity be to low so they cant break the membrane??????? the other chick pipped when i was asleep and has broken the membrane but has been working on one iny peirce of shell to break off for the past 4 hours - is that too long???? it doesnt look like their getting anywhere!!! Should i help them a tiny bit????? or increase the humidity - altho i dont want to drown them as ALL the wells are filled and i put an extra cup and spnge of water.......... Seeing the second one has broken the membrane i guess it can breathe but the other one hasnt so will it suffocate - its been trying to pip for the last 12 hours but isnt getting anywhere and cant seam to break the membrane!?!?! Am i just being a paronoid daddy????????? GAHHHH!!!!!!!

I had one take over 24 hours. I thought for sure it was dead. Once I saw a little beak peck through the shell I and knew it could breathe the air in the incubator I was much happier. Don't know if the chick was happier, but I was. I stayed up until 2 AM and when I got up there were 3. This was my first hatch and I was just thrilled. Didn't want to go to work. Talk about the miracle of life. Next time I'm putting a web cam in there so I can see it from work.

I ran my humidity around 70% but never saw any form on my window. I am willing to bet that you are a little higher than that. But here is an excellent article on why pipped eggs don't hatch. From what they say it is high humidity during incubation, not lockdown, that is the cause of drowning. At lockdown low humidity is more of the problem. Also ventilation is important at the end of the hatch.

Sit back and enjoy the show.
