I want to get new chicks. I have isa Browns now and they are so friendly. My kids pick them up, hand feed them and follow us around. I want to try a new breed but would like them to be just as friendly. I had 2 Silkies at one time and thought those were supposed to be friendly but they were very skittish and wanted nothing to do with us. I wouldn't mind having a different colored egg than brown to switch it up a bit. Opinions please...

I only have experience with the breeds in my flock but the RIRs are the friendliest. The barred rocks are a close second but both lay brown eggs. My Easter eggers and leghorns lay different color eggs but they are quite skiddish.

Americaunas are very friendly or rhode island reds.
I wouldn't recommend RIRs - I've heard they tend to lean toward the more aggressive side. I have two - one is practically a teddy bear and the other one seems to have forgotten that she is a chicken and not a Tyrannosaurus Rex.
EEs are wonderful, as are Buff Orpingtons and Barred Rocks though!

RIRs are friendly to humans, but to other chickens, Yessshhh! I currently have a Rhode Island Red who is feisty, I'm surprised she isn't on top of the pecking order.

My favorite breeds from experience are Silkies, Naked Necks (Turkish) and you guessed it, Isa Browns.

You already have Isa Browns so that's good!

Silkies, they are pretty unique. I'm sorry to hear you didn't have a good experience with them.

Naked Necks are on top of the list! They are by far my favorite breed! They lay large brown eggs. They lay about 5 eggs each week. Great personalities, calm and friendly. Their necks is what really makes them stand out!

Just remember, some chickens are just more skittish than others, no matter the breed.

I have a RIR that is at the bottom of the pecking order.
