Hi, so I have 12 week old Golden Comets and Speckled Sussex. 4 of each. My one Golden Sussex likes to jump up into the coop when I’m cleaning it, and will either peck at my shovel, peck at me, or just stare at me. It’s not an aggressive pecking. Usually I just pick her up and hold her for a bit, and then put her down in the run where all the other gals are eating. Do I just have a friendly chicken on my hands? Do they peck at you because they can’t see well?

Haha I thought so. I assumed you meant the sussex.
I've heard good things about GC too.
They shouldn't be pecking skin, of course. Sometimes their curious pecks can hurt - a lot! Some birds are gentler.

Yes you have a friendly, curious chicken. I had a chicken who would constantly stand at my feet and stare at me. One day a little out of annoyance, I picked her up and "forced" a good cuddle on her. Low and behold she liked it! I could feel her just "melt" in my arms. Now she regularly sits on my lap in the evenings, follows me into the house, etc. Sometimes she will lay on her side and sleep while in my lap. She is definitely an unusual chicken. I got her at age three, she was raised as "livestock" but is a buff brahma, so I guess she just had a natural tendency to friendliness. She's the one in my avatar photo. Enjoy your friendly bird!

I have really friendly chickens and I was holding one when my sister came up to us cause she smelt like flowers so she wanted to smell her and my chicken rubbed on her face. My sister was so confused lol, she's not a big chicken fan.
