Fang growled and bristled. "All of you are loners." He glanced at Fire for a second, and back at Phoenix, surprised she made eye contact.
Thistle looked up at Fang, feeling annoyed and wanting to fight.
Fire broke away from Fang's gaze, looking down at his paws.
Cloud looked at the pups again.
Clover looked past Fang.
Phoenix watched the reactions of all the other wolves. The loners and blood pack. "Very interesting and useful," she thought. Then she saw Fang focus his attention back on her. So she moved her head and gaze a little further to his right. Keeping her movements to a minimum. She looked out of the corner of her eye to check Jasper. Good he was doing what she had taught him. Stance wide, tail down and neck curved with head in a downward position. She heard the black wolf's statement. But, she was unsure if confirming or denying it, was a good idea right now. So she decided to wait him out and see his next move. She didn't know much about wolf politics, but she studied wolves. She finally brought her full attention forward again. But she was sure to kept that wolf, in her peripheral vision. She knew that large black wolf, with it's red eyes and bloody mouth, was brutal death personified. If she was going to get out of this alive. She needed to stay alert.
Jasper kept himself focused by wondered, if these wolves had followed them to the others, or had they been watching the other wolves, and they had unknowingly walk into their surveillance. Either way, the results could prove disastrous, for him and his sister. He chanced a glance at Nialla, she was Like a mirror of him. In a neutral pose. Waiting to see what their mother wanted them to do next.
Nialla, saw her brother looking at her. She was part terrified and part nervous. But she hid it fairly well. She just kept thinking about the last time they came across blood pack members, their father gave his life to save them. Their mother had vowed never again, would they take someone she loved. All Nialla wanted to do was run! But she remembered her mother's lessons and held fast. Just waiting for her mother's next command. She had hundreds of them. Her mother always said, "Life is hard out here, so you use what you have, to your best advantage." They seem like callous words, but that is how they have survived this long.
