It was just one of those things Brandon and a lesson that I learned. If I get new birds, quarantine! LOL!

Good luck with your friend and his birds.

Flipping birds? Now I've heard it all.

It sounds like your friend could be slowly decompensating due to some brain or mental problem. Especially if he has understood things in the past and does not seem to now.

Is there a call for action team in your area. Like the TV channel?

Here is what I would do,
1) turn him in to the animal control specialist (friend or not)

2) if nothing happens, go to the tv station and have them do a call for action, most TV stations will run with this sort of story, especially if the animal control won't do anything. Take pictures with you!

3) suck it up and put trash bags over your legs and tie at your hips, put a shower cap so the little nastys cannot get in your hair, (spray yourself with OFF or some other bug deterent) and step in and go retrieve the birds yourself. Of course, you will have to build a separate temp pen far far away from your babies, and wash the poor things with dog flea and tick shampoo or put them out of their misery.

4) Set off a bomb thingy in his coop. If he does not like it tell him he is infecting your yard with his mites and you are not going to have any of it,

5)Confiscate the meds you bought him and treat the poor thingsthat can handle the stress of help.

6) keep calling the authorities so they can come and clean up his mess. This is horrible.

7) GO GIRL GO, here is your first cheerleader, if I was there, I would be in that hen house with ya!!!!

I would call the Health department on him! You can do this anonymously! What he's doing is CRUEL!!! He knowingly has sick animals and isn't getting help for them?? Those poor creatures are suffering because of his outright neglect! If you call the health department, they should come out there immediately as it could be an avian sickness and they don't want that on their hands. When you call them, tell them the chickens are severely sick and just keeling over. Tell them that you are concerned that this is a serious avian disease that could spread...ten bucks says they'll be all over it. The SPCA usually doesn't do chickens.

thanks everyone im going to call the state vet. I am not calling any local authority or tv stations as I dont want to see him in alot of trouble. If the state vet comes out and pushes things that is on him but I dont want to personally call him into the police or anything as he is a friend beyond this situation.

Please keep us updated, this is becoming of interest to me and probably others.

I for one don't think anyone is going to do anything. Chickens are farm animals and property, they have no rights. I personally do not think he is breaking any laws, only because there probably aren't any to break concerning this. They are his property and he can do what he wants with them.

I would just charge him say $20 a month and do cleaning for him. OR, get a bunch of other people that have chickens and like another poster wrote, do some sort of intervention on him.
