If it were just sand here we would too, but this desert is full of rocks. Not good for them feetsies. So they will be shod, eventually. Once we get saddles we will ride them around the property for a bit before taking them out further. I need to know 100% they wont bolt when the gate is opened. They are very good about us poking at their feet.

Did I tell you they were fully vetted?? Vaccinations, teeth floated, wormed, everything! Free.95 is awesome!

I have never owned a horse. When I lived in Bishop, the property had two horses there that were unbroken and took me FOREVER to get them to eat from my hand. My aunt used to own Arabians, and anything is easier than taming an Arabian. It's been years since I rode, but just looking at these two, I know it is second nature - like riding a bike. May be a rusty at first, but I will get it. I remember alot about riding - pulling the reins down if they take off like a bat outta hell, how to make them circle with my foot, etc. Good thing my long term memory isnt shot yet!

I had an Arabian once. That horse could jam. He never walked either, he would always prance, and sometimes it would give me a side ache. lol
He was beautiful. but he had caved in ribs on both sides, one worse than the other. Apparently he got slammed stuck in a gate or something when he was younger, and broke his ribs. No one would ever buy him, so one lucky day, he was given to me. Well, I traded my POA for him.
He would slide to a stop, it was cool. Then one day when I rode down to the store, he slid stopped on the pavement, and it cut up his fetlocks, he didn't like to slide stop after that anymore. ya, I was a dumb teenager then. Unfortunately one day when my friend was riding him and I was on the neighbors horse, he took off down the road with her and they had a head on collision with a car. That was 3 days after I graduated high school, not a good day.

I get to wear new pants tomorrow!!

My grandson was getting me in shape this past week. I was doing cartwheels and handstands, and had to race around the track. Hey, I'm doing good as a grammie, I can run almost as fast as a 4 year old. And that's hard when you twist your feet in chicken holes, which are all over my property! Gopher holes too. I used to be the fastest runner in my class though, so really, I am way out of shape.

eta: I was referring to your comment Debi, about getting in shape now that you have horsies!

UGH

The hard part for me with the horsies is cleaning the feet. The bending down and getting them to lift their leg, then hold it while cleaning it, especially when they misbehave. that's why it takes me so long to work with them on it. Kills my back, sometimes I can not straighten back up, and my hip, my poor surgery hip, some days it is not happy at all. It still has a slight rotating problem.

Well, at least when I bought new pants tonight, it was the same size and not bigger! I did just take them out of the dryer early though, just to make sure they don't shrink and I can still fit in them tomorrow!

Ah yes much to look forward to. I told Ken last night "I am not sure what you were thinking, getting horses when we are both so broken we cant walk straight after sitting for awhile".

But once you are on the horse's back, the rocking motion, so therapeutic for the low back. Oh, but start out with short rides at a time, the legs, oh my gosh the legs, they get so sore, you can't walk. Oh and the knees, mine get so stiff I can't even get off the horse! lol
I have to hang onto the horn tight and slowly slide to the ground! And hope I can stand when i reach it! But with the pony, oh the ground is right there, ha ha!!

Good night Tanicha
