You know how horses do a complete and vertical sideways hop when startled by The Evil Mailbox or Evil Drainhole? But when we try to get them to do that on command (a la dressage), it's impossible?

Use what ya got. Use the mailbox to teach them that command.

My horse reared. It was his version of a tantrum. We tried every tip, tool and training aid in the book, none worked. I started giving him a command everytime he did it, till he would rear on command. THEN I could tell him no and he understood what I was saying no to.

Work smarter not harder.

I taught my horse to rear on command. Then, when we were in the hills and motorcycles were coming, and my friend's horse was scared, I'd make mine rear and rear, and the bikes would turn away, thinking the horses were out of control!

Yeah, I love it. Kinda wish I had rode in on a frothing horse naked while high though... Instead here I am in proper khaki office wear, sober and in a dusty office chair. Gotta take what life hands ya I guess.
