Let me know how it goes!! It was so good to see you again, and yes... it was probably a little risky driving down but I'm very glad you did.

I got my first Ameraucana egg today

BUT

it was green

The breeder I got them from posted a picture of her Ameraucana eggs and they were THE most beautiful eggs I'd ever seen - SO blue! I wanted those eggs and I hounded her for hatching eggs for months! She finally sold some to me ($40/dozen - yikes! Most expensive hatching eggs I've ever bought). When I got them, the color seemed a bit washed out, but I know that the color can fade during the laying cycle. I put them in the incubator. Most of them were clears but 3 of them went to the end and 2 hatched. Two! I was so grateful that they turned out to be a pair and I was really looking forward to seeing that first egg.

My son was helping me feed the chickens today and he said, "Mom what is that egg doing up there?" and I said, "Ohhhh wow! Someone laid their first egg today!" It was a colored egg and the other juviniles in the pen should lay a brown or white egg, so I knew it was my Ameraucana. I'm just a little disappointed that it was green and not blue. They're still beautiful birds, but darn, I was really hoping for a stunning blue egg.

BELLE!!!!

True blue eggs are very uncommon. Sometimes pullets will lay blue and then change to green as they age.

I've seen a few pics on BYC of blue eggs that were so blue because of the camera being used or the image was edited.

Well, there was one that was obviously altered or the camera had bad color. I'm not accusing anyone of anything or saying it's common. However, I don't think may people will admit their eggs aren't as blue as they come out in pics. I may be wrong but I believe Aracauna's lay bluer eggs.

Up from my catnap. Mr Saddi woke me up with an especially bluesy version of Ain't no Sunshine. He's got a range on him. Like Boyd and PC i'm simply used to the voice, then suddenly it's like "oh yeah, he's got a gorgious voice", and then the thought passes.
