When I was 8 or so my aunts worked there, so I went a bunch that year. Erik was 1 when we last went, and Evan was 5. Legoland has great stuff for the under 10 group, but now erik's 45 tall and can go on more rides.

when i was a kid my family went to disneyworld but i was in a stroller and they told me I had diarrhea so bad that the umbrella stroller left a trail.

so my whole time growing up i pleaded to go back again... but no... it was not so.

Good afternoon my friends. Well we put the family vacation to ballot today and there was one vote for Maine (me), one vote for stay home on the deck (hubby), and two votes for "fly to the ocean on an airplane". It appears that there might have been some pre-planning before the ballot process took place amoungst my sons.
So I've been surfing airline websites, looking at fares, and discussing which ocean. So California-ites, could you please assist? If one were to plan 6 days in your lovely state that included: Universal studios, some type of ocean visit, perhaps a drive along that ocean view drive... what else have you got over there to amaze teenage boys (besides California girls). How about lodging suggestions? Please assist.

Skip universal, it has a scant handful of rides (I think about 8) and the rest is a tour. Unless your kids love educational fieldtrips it's not for them. Swap in magic mountain, which is one of the six flags coster parks. Disneyland does have stuff for teens, if they've not seen it yet it's fun. Depending on which city, I can get you directions to a beach for a day of beach bumming and snowcones. You may wanns think about a citypass, so you can hit disney, the san diego wildlife park, knotts berry, balboa park.

Catalina island is pretty groovy as well, and gives you a definite city-break.

Excellent info, Saddi, thank you. We've done Disney in FL so we could probably skip Disney CA and concentrate on other things. I was trying to remember where my parents took me when I was a kid. Le Brea (?) tar pits, I just remember the smell, but boys view those things differently than girls. I had completely forgotten about that zoo, and I believe it was amazing when I was a kid. I'm sure it's even better now. I'm googling some of the other items you list. Thank you again.

Oh my kids would love it. There are clubs here with such activites. But hiking, we have in Iowa. Ocean we don't, Roller coasters we don't, and museums...not many. Our zoo would fit in the SD zoo lobby.
