The paperwork from the orthopedics was correct, someone between my general dr (I hand carried the paperwork to the office there) and the HMO approval letter it went awry. I have IEHP, and it takes 3 weeks to get the approval (not sure where it gums up, just that it does). Net result 3 weeks to get the referral letter back, so I can get new scans and get back to the ortho's.

If I were you I would push the issue - tell your doctor to ask for emergency approval and then they only have 24 hours to approve or deny it. After that, it is automatic approval.
