I love barrel racing. My friend does it professionally and trains the horses for other people as well. I'm thinking about spending a week down there and getting some lessons.

Cool!! Well, I couldn't find a freakin trashcan...So I stacked up 2 hay bales....Kinda hard to knock down, but oh well! It was fun! My horse never did it before so he would turn so sharp, I thought he would slip!

If you want to start racing, remember your pockets and always go the wrong(or different) direction from the last barrel. You don't want the horse to start making decisions about who's in charge while you're making your final run towards the timer...

ETA: Your horse can slip going around a barrel, I've seen it happen. Be sure to really support your horse with your legs.

I come from the old school of riding, I never wore a helmet and I didn't think about whether or not my horse was going to slip or make decisions. I just pointed him at the course, held on tight and tried not to smile so big I'd get bugs in my teeth.

Musta worked, I got a slew of blues....

It may just be my horse, but he's incredibly opinionated. I love my helmet because my head's been slammed against the ceiling, wall, and floor. He's usually a great horse, but sometimes he just wants to be in charge. I always convince him otherwise, but he required a better rider than I was when I got him.
