Frightful's been at it again! New COOL sighting, post 191

Going to try and get video, but the teenager who has the camera usually posts to YouTube. No matter what, I'll make sure I post a link to any video and add photos to this thread!

Wouldn't that be cool, when you release her, Romeo shows up? And they fly in circles together!
This would be my dream come true!

I have fantasies of her crying out with joy at her release, and him hearing her, answering, and racing to get to where she is. We're such hopeful romantics

Banding re-habbed birds is not usually done? How odd. We do it all the time. Either Canadian Wildlife Services or the Ministry of Natural Resources (both govt organizations) do it for us. Wonder why your agencies frown on it. Good luck with the release. It will be a great time for her release.....no more snow cover so food sources will be more readily available. A little bit of rain won't hurt her. Don't fret! I am sure she will be fine.

It's weird, I thought that too. But here's what she said, after mentioning they had a licensed 'bander' there: "...the federal
banding laboratory has not been encouraging to rehabbers to band their releases, which is very frustrating to us."

Will let you know when I learn more. I sure would like to band her so we'd KNOW when it was her we're seeing.

Writer, we'll find a way for you to see it!!

Our local media is often invited to a release such as this. Has anyone contacted them? It would be a way to document it as well as get recognition for your rehab facility. Donations often follow the story.

We haven't contacted any media.
1) This has been such an intensely personal experience for me that I'm not sure I want them present.
2) The release is behind my house, so that makes me nervous about publicity, too.
3) The media was a little invasive at a very painful point in the recent past and I don't have a whole lot of trust in them right now.

I have written a story about this experience with Frightful, though, that I plan to enter into a writing contest. If I get it published through the literary guild, then the story will be read by a great many people. And if it doesn't then I may submit it to the local paper.

I have also thought about giving the center credit at the end of any video that gets posted, similar to what I saw in your link earlier in the thread.
(it's in post 86 if anyone missed it)

All valid reasons for keeping it to yourself. You will always have your own personal video in your mind that I am sure you will never forget. If you are like me, you will run out into the yard years from now, calling to any RTH's that appear, convinced that it is Frightful. I like to think that the Blue Jays, Cardinals, Screech Owls and Sparrows that I call to on my property are the ones I have released and it makes me happy to see that they are doing well. ( Good thing I don't live in the city. " Look Martha, there she goes again....calling for someone named "Wendall" when there clearly isn't anyone around". ) Little do they know, but that Blue Jay in the tree just might BE Wendall.

I'm already the crazy lady in the neighborhood due to the chickens. My area is a patchwork of farms and subdivisions. And I do already talk to the animals. We get all the neighborhood dogs and cats visiting whenever we are outside.

To make me more certifiable, there is a small bat that I sing to in the yard. I had nothing to do with its care or maintenance, it just always seems to be out when I am, in the dusk. And when I sing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Bat" I swear it comes down closer to me. Maybe because I draw skeeters? Maybe because my voice is awful and sounds like bat screech? Who knows. But I like it. It may not even be the same bat since this has been going on for the past 4 summers.

So there is no doubt that I will see ALL hawks above my house as Mr. And Mrs. Frightful. But I think they actually already were, since I found her about 3 miles down the valley from my house

And there is a part of me that wants to keep frozen mice handy in case Frightful ever stops by to visit
