I’m just trying to clear this up because it gets a bit confusing but my understanding is the following

A[Rooster] Frizzle + [Hen] normal Silkie = Sizzle

A [Rooster] normal silkie + [Hen] frizzle = Frizzles but a 50/50 chance

And frizzle + frizzle = frazzle but it’s an unstable breed with a lot of issues?

My confusion is to which needs to be a rooster and which needs to be a hen. If I could get some clarification or added knowledge would be much appreciate, thanks.

It doesn’t matter, a Frizzle cock or hen mated to a Silkie cock or hen will yield 50% Sizzle chicks and 50% smooth feathered chicks. A Frizzle cock or hen mated to a smooth feathered cock or hen will yield 50% Frizzled chicks and 50% smooth feathered chicks.

When you say smooth featherd here’s what exactly do you mean?. Something that’s not a silkie?. Sorry I’m relatively new to a lot of this

Smooth feathers are what most almost all chicken breeds have. If the feathers aren’t Frizzled or Silkied then they’re smooth feathered.

Thanks for the info. Is there a preferred smooth featherd breed that is typically more favorable for creating frizzles?.

Also sorry to overload you with so many questions but what does the original frizzle consist of intially?. I always assumed a frizzle had silkie in them. I realize frizzle isn’t a breed but kind of confusing.

Also what would a sizzle + normal silkie create?. I’m assuming something similar to a frazzle?.

The Cochin is usually used to create Frizzled Cochins.
The Frizzle isn’t so much a breed as it is more like a color variety. A Frizzle can be any breed of chicken.
Since the Silkie feathering is recessive a Sizzle x Silkie would yield 25% Sizzle chicks, 50 Silkied chicks, and 25% smooth feathered chicks.
A Frazzle is a Frizzle that has 2 Frizzle genes. You don’t want to be breeding Frazzles as their feathers are very brittle.
