How can you tell if your baby chick is going to be a frizzle?? I supposedly got a black frizzle. She's got her feathers (well most I think) and I can't tell a big difference? When would I start to notice the "frizzle effect"?

I have a frizzle cochin bantam. As soon as her feathers started coming in, you could immediately see the difference. Her wing feathers came in first and they curled right up. Maybe it could be different with different breeds?

From my understanding, not all frizzles, frizzle. This is good because one is not suppose to breed frizzled to frizzled. McMurray says that frizzles don't frizzle until they are older but my frizzles frizzled with their first wing feathers at just a few days old.
So you may have a late bloomer frizzled frizzle or you may have a non frizzled frizzle.
Whew that's a lot of frizzles.

What breed do you have? I have a couple of frizzled silkies, which means that they have silkie feathers that are frizzled, they sort of look like I used a crimping iron on them. Then I have one that is a sizzle, which means it is a silkie, but has regular feathers that curl up. It is definitely more evident on a bird with regular feathers. From the time his first feathers came in they were curled back toward his head. So you probably have a bird with only one frizzle gene which means it can be bred to a frizzled bird. Hope that helps. Can you post pics?
