frizzle/frazzle huh?

I hadn't heard of a frazzle until today... is it really a different bird then a frizzle? How is it different?
What makes a frizzle? Is it a true bread or a mix like an EE? I've seen "frizzled" feathers on different breeds so this leads me to think a mix of some sort.
I think they are just cute as a button and would LOVE to have some some day but want to know more...thirsting for info

Ive heard and seen frizzle (polish and cochins) and ive heard sizzle (silkie crossed with frizzle cochins) and just silkie (silkies and seramas) but ive never heard of frazzles

Frizzles have one "frizzle" gene and one regular gene. A cross between a frizzle or frazzle and a non-frizzle/frazzle.

Frazzles have two "frizzle" genes, causing their feathers to be super curly. Both parents have to have the frizzle gene to pass on, therefore frazzles come from frizzle to frizzle or frazzle to frizzle or frazzle to frazzle.

If you want to breed frizzles, you could breed a frizzle to a non-frizzle, but then you'd end up with 50% frizzle, 50% non-frizzle because the frizzle parent has only one frizzle gene, not two... 50% chance of passing it on.

If you breed a frizzle to a frizzle you get 25%frazzle, 50%frizzle, 25% non-frizzle.

If you breed frazzle to non-frizzle, you get 100% frizzle because you're guarranteed that one of the two frizzle genes in the frazzle will get paired with a non-frizzle gene of the non-frizzle.

Yes, but you don't want to breed "frazzles". Their feathers are brittle and break and they tend to not live very long. They have poor heat and cold tolerance.

The more commonly used term for a bird carrying two copies of frizzle is curley. This board is the only place I have seen the term frazzle used.

Frizzle is not a breed; it can occur in any breed; it is a mutation to the feathers that causes them to curl. It also affects the organs, but I don't recall the specifics on that.

I have heard the term Frazzle and Curley used interchangeably since I first got hooked on Frizzled birds. In reading what information that I have found on the internet, the double dose of the frizzle gene does affect the metabolism in the Homozygeous birds (Curley or Frazzles) Not only do the feathers become brittle or fail to grow in properly there are other issues. This is not unlike the lethal gene in Pied birds or Merle Colored Dogs. You just should not breed a pair of them.

I would suggest never breeding for frazzles as they call it. For obvious reasons that others have posted. Its borderline animal cruelty.
