Polish aren't much bigger than Silkies, so you may get something inbetween. You never can tell though. I was given a rooster that was an F1 Showgirl (Silkie X NN), and you would think that he'd be kind of a small bird, when he's actually nearly as big as my Jersey roos. He's in a pen with three of his daughters and one granddaughter, the GD being the only NN. The NN chick I got from that pen is a splash, and she's tiny compared to other chicks her age, so the tendency towards smallness is probably being met up in the genes again.
I agree with you, genetics is a fascinating subject when you can see it in action and understand it better, rather than trying to read through it all and just get confused trying to sort it out.
