I need some help! I'm new to frizzles, sizzles and silkies.

and please explain exactly what a frizzle is and a sizzle.

JK. I do not know about cochins.

A cochin is a separate purebreed. Is that what you wanted to know?

I don't remember, Maxx – is there a certain breed called the 'Frizzle' or is it simply something that can occur in any (or many) breed?

I have cochins too!! I was given the frizzle and told he was a cochin cross frizzle and if I crossed him with a silkie I would get a sizzle. He was my only frizzle so I didn't know if it would be best to cross him with the silkie or the cochin. Does anyone know if he will pass the frizzle gene into all his offspring?

In the US, frizzle refers to the feathering, not the breed. Frizzling is common in cochin and polish, but occur in all breeds. In Europe (and perhaps Australia?) frizzle IS a breed.

A sizzle has all silkie traits EXCEPT feathering: frizzle feathering replaces silkie feathering. Note, a sizzle does NOT have silkied feathers. If it did, it would be a frizzled silkie, not a sizzle.

edited to add: this needs to be a sticky--it seems like the question is asked at least twice a week.

I thought a frizzle crossed with a frizzle was a frazzle and undesirable because it weakens the feathers? I could be wrong, though?
