Hi frizzle lovers, I'm hoping to get some advice on my polish frizzle cockerel please. I was doing a crest inspection of my polish today and noticed Poppet has a wet weepy area above his eye between that and his crest. It looks as though his crest feathers are pulling it down and it's not getting enough air in there. I trimmed his crest back to try and take a bit of weight of that side and gave it a good clean (good job he likes attention) but I'm not sure what to put on it to stop any infection? I don't want to put something on that he may scratch into his eye. Also I thought about tying his crest up but then I thought this might annoy him and make him scratch. Any advice would be very much appreciated please. He is my favourite bird love him to bits.:love

Most of my polish mixes have short tops that sort of stick up but I do have one gal with a much bushier and longer headdress. I found that keeping it trimmed is best for her being able to see. I would advise you to trim back the feathers that dangle over the eyes. This will help his infection heal and if you keep him trimmed back it will facilitate his vision too. I even found trimming the fur around the cheeks of some of my faverolles helped with their vision. I know such looks cute to us but for them anything over the eyes is debilitating. Keep in mind that chickens rely most heavily on their sense of sight.

You can see her headdress is not that long but I still keep her trimmed back.
