Frizzle thread

Pics

Here is my little frizzle gal who turned roo. Frizzles are so hard to tell the gender. The saddle feathers just dont really show. I find I have to rely on coloration. This one is coloring more like a roo than a hen but he is also attempting to crow and mate with his flockmates. That pretty much gives it away.
Aww he's so cute!! How old is he? mine is all black so I'm not able to go by coloring. Gorgeous little guy you have there!!

Gee Im not sure but I guess between 4 and 5 months. He still peeps mostly but he chases the girls I heard some practice crows coming from the coop this morning. Im pretty sure it was Pine cone since Im also pretty sure the rest of my mature chickens are ladies. I do have some babies yet to be determined but not near old enough to crow.
My first chicken (shown in my avitar) turned out to be a roo. I was in denial even once he started crowing. Everyone who saw him guessed he was a she. Those curly feathers and the petticoat look had us all fooled. Here is what he matured to look like:

LOL...I know I think I will be in denial too...I have one Roo for sure (a Maran) and I swear he has lost his voice...I think he did it on purpose so we will keep him. Frizzles are great. Just love the coloring on your guy..what a handsome dude he is!!!

Thank you, chickie was a real lady, ahh hen, killer. He is gone now but he also was a real help to me. I raised him as you would a dog or cat. He never got used to sleeping outside with the others in the coop but during the day he would take good care of the yard and his hens. I could always count on him to help me get any escape hens back into the yard. He was a very special guy. Pine cone is part Faverolle. He has the fifth toe. I think that is why he is coloring out with all the cream coloring on his otherwise black feathers. I look forward to seeing him develop each day. I wish he would not crow but at least because he is a bantam his crow so far is pretty weak. Thanks again for the complements on my guys. I love the frizzles too. They are so soft to hold and pet and they look like little fur balls. I have some gray and some cream colored pullets too. Im hoping to get a red frizzle some day.
