I should have known! I bet they have little helmets with radios in them too - I wonder when we will be able to tune in to their radio show?!

Something must have spooked then because they stay in the coop all day.

65 degrees in the coop and they are not fully feathered. Shouldn't they be under then heater?

I actually remove my electric hens from mine when they are only a few days old. They do live in the house for the first few weeks, but are warm enough without it. Chicks are more resilient than we think. With yours, I'd probably have it on the highest setting for a week, then begin turning it off in the afternoon, then all day. They look like they'll be fine. If they're not, just turn it back on again :)

You're very creative and also have a great sense of humor. But, I have a question. Seems I missed the reason for the Chunnel. Why not just let them exit straight from the hen house into the run without the extra work involved in building the Chunnel? Enquiring minds ...

Well that was my original intent.

Then I got to thinking about how would I paint the side of the coop against the run?

How do I install the hardware cloth?

Solved those problems with the Chunnel...besides it was more fun building the Chunnel!

Stray cat took off when I went out to feed and water the chicks.

Chicks must have been in the run today. The few weeds that were in there are gone!

They been roosting at night at the highest bar, all huddled together so I took out the heater.

I still have 8 (hens) + 1 (rooster). Knowledge I read on this forum must have been good!

One darn thing just leads to another, doesn't it?

PS ... most of us painted *before* the run went up. The hardware cloth gets attached to 2 x 2's which have been nailed to the hen house. Just sayin' ....
